2 sisters bakery...

My sister shares my love of baking--so we spent the entire weekend doing just that!  We made strawberry cupcakes with a strawberry whipped cream frosting and chocolate cupcakes with flowers!

A study of interiors

I just had to do this project along with them!
My drawing students just recently finished their interior perspective projects. Everyone got really creative with this project.  They are perspective drawings done in watercolor and pen.

Jellies!

Are these paper mache jellyfish not the coolest things in the ocean?  My mom did these with her kindergarten students for their art show last week!  They gave an awesome effect!

accumulation

I realized today that I have started collecting really random things in my classroom.  I guess its normal... I just hate to get rid of these things hoping they will make a cool project one day!

how to make your own faux terrarium

step1: find objects that you would like to put in it.  Rocks, moss, sticks, beads, things from your travels
step 2: find an appropriate container: cake dome, fancy plate, etc.
step 3: assemble found objects in an interesting way in your container!

I made 2 different terrariums because I wasn't sure which one I wanted to go with. So try out many different combinations of objects and containers!

book making

This semester I made sketchbooks with my students.  We just used 2 pieces of sturdy card stock and made the filler pages with recycled paper.  We used a simple binding technique, variations of which can be found here. Everyone had to completely cover the card stock with other materials/papers and make it their own! These books would be great for travel journals, notepads,or just regular sketchbooks.

bake sale

This week we held a bake sale at school to benefit our art department.  I decided to make cupcakes and  had to get creative with some individual packaging.  I used just regular plastic punch cups(hopefully everyone will recycle them) and placed cling wrap on top and tied with string. Parchment paper works well too.

on a more personal note...

I have a new found hobby.  After not wanting to spend 4.99 and up on a card that didn't completely thrill me in the greeting card aisle, I decided to start out on a more personal note(pun intended) and give my friends and family handmade cards that I created! Here's my first few so far.

For my friend that ran her first marathon:)

For the husband on valentine's day...
For my sister's birthday

facing forward

I just have to share my students portraits that they have been working on.  They are absolutely amazing.  They drew from photographs that I took of them here at school.
